If you find yourself at the dinner hour and have no clue what to make, or if you are just running late, here is a trick I've learned . . .
set the table first.
It gives the appearance that dinner will be served soon. As hungry family members linger about they will see that the table is set and they will feel reassured that their bellies will be filled soon.

I love it.
very wise. my mom's trick was sauteeing onions. it immediately made the house smell like dinner was well on its way, and it was likely that she'd need them for whatever menu she came up with while in the kitchen.
Funny, but my family tends to check the oven and any pots and pans that my be on the stove. This tip wouldn't fool them for very long.
Ah, but Carla, this would work for the Tates as no one would want to get close enough to the kitchen for fear they would be put right to work!!!
